Furies

Furies or Eumenides were the goddesses of vengeance in Greek mythology who fought those who committed evil or wrong. These vengeful female and androgynous ‘warriors’ rise from my canvases to right today’s injustices. Sadly, we seem to be regressing in terms of equality for women and minorities, particularly with the rise of populism, the upsurge of incels and broligarchs and the return of fascism.

The individual figures are devised as rough prototypes before dripping onto the painting, then assembled into the most dynamic patterns. The styles of the figures are influenced by Egyptian deities, therianthropes, chimeras, warriors, dancers, punks, Bowie etc. The colours are usually dominated by earth tones and copper.
